You have to convert them with a format string every time you use them. Details: This tutorial will demonstrate how to convert seconds to time in days, minutes and hours in Excel and. I'm not sure what format Oracle stores date datatypes in. Since milliseconds_since_1970 has 7 decimal places, it will contain fractional days which Oracle converts to hours, minutes, and seconds. Since these were not specified for, they default to zero. I have a row in excel with the following data: 1271664970687 (I think it's the number of milliseconds from 1970.).I would like to have addition row that will show it as date/time.

Oracle date datatypes have hours, minutes, and seconds. Excel does not have a MILLISECOND function to return only the milliseconds of a time value. The result is an Oracle date datatype adjusted for leap years. Fortunately, dates are internally stored as whole numbers and you can therefore simply add the date and time values before performing the subtraction as I’ve explained here. This converts your milliseconds (replace ? with the number) to days and then adds the days to January 1, 1970. I can tell you how many milliseconds are in one day (1 day 24 hours 86,400,000 milliseconds), I can tell you how many milliseconds there are in 24 June, 2011, the same number as in 17 February, 1993 - every day has the same number of milliseconds.

Oracle will automatically account for leap years. How does one convert a particular date to milliseconds Milliseconds is a duration. If you add a number to an Oracle date datatype, it assumes that the number is in days. Your function will not work precisely because it does not account for leap years.
